How to Automatically Publish Brief Summaries of New Posts to a Telegram Channel or Group

This article explains how to select sources for your channel or group, verify permissions, and enable automatic publication of new messages in a summarized format.

You manage a Telegram channel or group and want to regularly inform your audience about the content published in selected channels. Manually, you have to read each new post, summarize it briefly, and publish it on your own platform.

The “Essence” Bot can do this automatically. It provides concise summaries of new messages from selected Telegram channels and publishes the ready-made text in your connected channel or group.

During setup, it is crucial not to confuse the source with the auto-publication destination. The source is a public Telegram channel whose new messages the bot monitors. The auto-publication destination is the channel or group where the bot sends the completed summaries. Connecting a channel as a publication destination does not mean the bot reads its messages.

You can select sources individually for each channel or group. For example, one channel can receive summaries from multiple sources, while a group might receive them from only one.

Before enabling the feature, check the basic requirements:

  • Your subscription is active;
  • At least one public Telegram source has been added;
  • Both you and the bot have administrator rights and posting permissions in the selected channel or group;
  • If the publication destination is a group, the bot must not be assigned as an anonymous administrator.

The last point is necessary because, in a group, the summary is posted on behalf of the bot. In a channel, it appears as a post from the channel itself.

Open the “Essence” Bot and connect a specific channel or group as the auto-publication destination, then select the desired sources from those already added. Before launching, the bot will send a test post. Check not only whether it appeared but also that the correct destination was selected—especially if you administer several similar channels or groups. After that, enable auto-publication. Personal delivery of summaries to the chat with the bot and its notifications are configured separately: changing one setting does not replace the other.

Later, you can modify the list of sources in the settings for a specific channel or group: add another already connected source or remove unnecessary ones.

Auto-publication has an important time-related limitation. Once enabled, the bot publishes only brief summaries of new messages. Summaries that accumulated before activation are not sent to the channel or group. The same rule applies after a pause: upon resumption, there will be no queue of old updates; publication continues with subsequent new messages.

For each auto-publication destination, you can independently pause, resume, or completely disable the service. Pausing is convenient when the feed is temporarily unnecessary, while disabling is appropriate when the channel or group should no longer receive summaries. If the bot loses access to the publication destination, auto-publication for that channel or group will be automatically disabled.
