How to Read Telegram Channels in a Foreign Language Without Translating Every Post

The language of the brief summary is not meant to “translate the channel.” It is meant to make the initial scan of various sources uniform: to understand what new posts are about in the language in which you make decisions faster—whether to read the original or not.

This distinction is important when your work set includes, for example, Russian-language channels, English-language authors, and sources in other languages you only partially know. If you translate each post individually, you spend time before you even understand whether the topic relates to your task. If you wait until you have free time to read the originals, messages accumulate along with uncertainty.

It is more practical to choose one language for the incoming layer. For a product manager who discusses products with the team in Russian, this is usually Russian: it is easier to quickly correlate a new message with the current task, discussion, or decision in that language. English is worth choosing if you take work notes and formulate conclusions in it. The criterion is simple: choose the language in which you answer the question “Do I need to open the source post?” without internal translation.

In Essence, the interface and brief summary language is selected in the settings. After that, the bot tracks new messages from connected Telegram sources and sends their brief summaries in the selected language. The language of the original post may be different: the service summarizes available new messages in the user’s language, rather than requiring all channels to publish in it.

Set up reading in three steps

1. Collect only sources for one work question. Before a product strategy meeting, these might be channels about AI tools, product launches, and the market, but not all interesting subscriptions at once. Add them to Essence by username or supported Telegram link.

2. Choose the language in which you make decisions. It applies to both the interface and brief summaries. Essence supports 26 languages: ru, en, es, hi, zh, tr, de, fr, kk, uk, ar, bn, pt, ja, vi, ko, it, jv, pl, cs, az, fa, uz, nl, id, el. Do not choose a language “just in case”: only these languages are available, not an arbitrary language.

3. Read the summary as a fork, not as a replacement for the original. If it contains a topic that affects your work, open the original message and check details, links, conditions, and exact wording. If there is no connection to the current task, do not waste time on a separate post translation.

This approach does not make the source unnecessary: the brief summary does not verify facts and does not replace reading the message where accuracy is important. But it removes extra work at the first step—you do not have to switch language for each new post to understand its subject.
