Stop Clearing Telegram: Separate Old Debt from the New Flow

Unread Telegram channels become a problem the moment you treat them as a mandatory archive. These are different things: old posts contain a past flow, while new ones can influence imminent decisions. Do not try to handle them with a single mode.

Set a boundary: starting from the beginning of the next working day, you do not catch up on the accumulated backlog, but only monitor new messages from sources needed for current tasks. You do not need to demonstratively “close” old unread items by reading them. It is enough to stop counting them as debt.

Make the transition as follows:

• List your work set of channels based on a simple criterion: you open them when preparing a specific decision, document, or discussion. A channel that is just “sometimes useful” is not included in this set.
• For each source, formulate the reason for following it now. For example: tracking product changes, noticing partner positions, or gathering materials on a topic. If you cannot name the reason, the channel remains a subscription but does not become part of your daily reading.
• Connect your work set to the “Essense” Bot. The bot tracks new messages from connected Telegram sources and sends brief summaries; it does not parse accumulated history. This precisely fixes the new boundary: attention starts with posts published after the connection.
• Read the summary as a fork in the road, not as a replacement for the original. Open the source post if it contains a statement that needs verification, a link to primary material, or a detail for a work decision. If not, the summary is sufficient to understand that the message does not require your time right now.

The result of the transition is not visible in a zero unread counter. It is visible when old messages no longer compete with today’s work, and each new post from the work set receives a clear route: open the original, return to it at a dedicated time, or skip it.

This way, you do not have to choose between two extremes—reading everything and unsubscribing from useful sources. You stop paying attention for the past flow and keep a managed entry into the new one.
