Too many Telegram channels: trim the first pass, not your reading
Skipping unread posts is not the answer — reshape your incoming feed and keep only the sources that actually shape your work.
The problem with dozens of Telegram channels is not that you read too slowly. Each time you start from the wrong unit of work: the channel. While you open one source, scroll through it, and move on to the next, your attention drifts to navigating the feed rather than deciding whether the message is worth your time.
Make the first pass about concise summaries of new posts, not about channels. Connect the Telegram sources you currently check by hand to Essence: in the web app, their new messages are gathered into a single feed of short summaries. Browse that feed — not the list of chats and not the unread counters.
For each summary, make just one decision: open the original post or move on. Go to the original when its details drive your next action — choosing a direction, checking a condition, discussing a change with a colleague, or using the material in current work. If the summary does not lead to a next action, do not try to “finish reading for completeness.” A short summary conveys the gist, but it does not replace the original source where exact wording and context matter.
Accumulated old posts should not become the price of admission to a new routine. Do not clear them one by one to earn the right to see fresh entries. Start with new messages and track which sources actually caused you to open the original or change a work decision.
Once a month, review the connected channels. For each one, ask a simple question: over the past month, did any publication from this source lead to at least one concrete action — study the topic deeper, change a decision, prepare a discussion, or return to a task? If not, remove the source from the first pass. This is not a judgment on the channel’s quality: it may be great, it simply does not belong in your daily work attention.
A single feed alone does not solve overload if you carry your entire old subscription list into it. Its job is to make the first glance short; the monthly review keeps it from growing back. In the end, you stop cycling through Telegram channel by channel and reserve full reading only for publications that truly require your decision.
